[FILM] Four Corners “Die Vier Hoeke”

Four Corners — “Die Vier Hoeke” is South African prison slang for  the four corners of a prison cell. It also represents North, South East, West or rather, the directions that we take in our lives.

The film centers on a 13-year-old chess prodigy who’s drawn into Cape Town’s “notorious child-gang culture.” His absent father, recently released from prison, tries to break the pattern of violence and keep his son away from the Four Corners. – Indiewire

This film has an ill soundtrack and features notable South African Hip Hop artists Khuli Chana, Rattex, Jits Vinger, Isaac Mutant, Cream (with production by my homie HIPE), etc.

Check out the trailer.

Dope new music from Driemanskap, one of the most talented South African Hip hop groups out right now.

“Izulu Lelam is the first video from Driemanskap’s forthcoming second album, Hlala Nam.

‘Izulu Lelam’, which, translated from isiXhosa, means ‘heaven is mine’, is a song of hope dedicated to anyone going through tough times in life. The message of the song is that one day everyone will be free from the chains of hardship because heaven is a place that doesn’t discriminate between rich or poor, black or white.”

Liner Notes
Ghetto Dubs is a double EP of hypnotic soundsystem music with a lineage that includes dub, acid house, Detroit techno and grime. Inspired by the dusty ghetto streets of the Cape Flats, the tracks are raw, aggressive, powerful and direct, relying on dutty bass grooves, heavy tape delays, hypnotic melodies and the hauntingly chopped vocals of some of Cape Town’s most rugged underground emcees.

Pure Solid is producer Damian Stephens aka Dplanet and VJ Anne-Sophie Leens aka spo0ky. Together they create an intense audio-visual assault on the senses.

Stephens describes his musical style as ‘soundsytem music’, ‘robot army music’ or ‘dark’. This sound has influences of dub, grime, Detroit techno, Chicago house, acid, hip hop, juke and electro.

Leens creates bespoke graphic design and video treatments that interpret and enhance the music, providing a powerful, immersively hypnotic audio visual experience.

FRESHVidz! Snakes & Fakes – Driemanskap (Cape Town, South Africa)

Driemanskap, IMO, is perhaps one of the dopest Hip Hop acts coming out of the region. When introduced to their music by a fellow music lover & comrade, I was instantly enamored. I listened to the labels (Pioneer Unit) Band Camp joints for several hours.

The level of production and artistry resonating from the whole entire label is one of rarity. When I find precious Hip Hop gems like Pioneer Unit, I am quite ecstatic.

I look forward to working with them during my travels in the motherland.
